Apex Legends Rules

A squad-based battle royale, 20 teams of 3 dropping onto a shrinking map.

Format

Squad matches; a league tracks placement and eliminations across several matches per round, same convention as Fortnite leagues.

Scoring
  • Points-based: placement points (top-1 scores highest, decreasing by rank) plus a point per elimination (often capped per match)
  • League table totals points across the season's matches
  • Tiebreaker: most match wins, then most total eliminations
Key Rules
  • Agree the points table and elimination cap per match before the season
  • Agree legend-pick restrictions, if any, and the ranked/pubs lobby setting
  • Screenshot the end-of-match placement screen for scoring

Scoring across multiple games

Apex's own competitive format scores placement points on a sliding scale plus a point per kill, across a series of five or six games in the same lobby. A single match result is close to meaningless given the variance.

The kill-to-placement ratio is the key decision. Weighting placement heavily produces careful, positional play; weighting kills produces aggressive early drops. Neither is wrong, but a league should choose deliberately rather than by accident.

Squads and legend selection

Three-player squads mean a roster of four or five per team to survive a season, and a clear substitute policy. Apex is unforgiving with a stand-in who has not played with the team, so allow squads to register regular subs.

Legend selection rarely needs restricting, since the game already prevents duplicates within a squad. What is worth agreeing is whether teams must lock legends for a whole series or may change between games.

Common questions

How many games in a match day?

Five or six in the same lobby, with points totalled. That is the format used competitively and it exists because battle royale results across one or two games are dominated by luck.

How are points awarded?

A descending placement scale, typically twelve points for a win down to nothing outside the top ten, plus one point per kill. Publish the exact table before the season so teams know whether to play for placement or engagements.

Do you need custom lobbies?

For a proper league, yes, since it is the only way every team faces the same field. Access varies by region and tier, and leagues without it usually run public matches with simultaneous queuing and accept the extra noise.

How do you handle ring positioning luck?

You cannot remove it, only average it out. That is another reason for five or six game series and for scoring seasons on many match days rather than treating a single day as decisive.
