Counter-Strike 2 Rules
A tactical 5v5 shooter, one of the longest-running esports titles.
Best-of-1 or best-of-3, first to 13 rounds per map (with overtime rules if tied).
- •Match win = 3 league points, loss = 0
- •Track round differential as a supporting stat
- •Tiebreaker: head-to-head result, then round differential across the season
- •Agree the map pool before the season — most leagues use the active competitive map pool
- •Win a round by eliminating the other team, planting/detonating the bomb, or defusing it
- •Agree on anti-cheat/spectator requirements for any league with real stakes
Match format and server settings
The standard competitive format is MR12: first to 13 rounds with a side switch at 12. Leagues running their own servers should use the established competitive config rather than default matchmaking settings, which differ in round time and economy.
Overtime is usually MR3 with a fixed starting money, and needs deciding before a fixture reaches 12-12. A league that has not settled it will settle it in a chat window while ten people wait.
Map veto and rosters
The veto process is part of the competition: in a best-of-one, teams alternate bans until one map remains, and in a best-of-three each team bans, then picks, with the remaining map as the decider. Publish the exact order in your league rules.
Five players plus at least one substitute per team is the realistic roster requirement. Also state whether coaches may communicate during a match, since it is a live issue at every level of the game.
Common questions
What is MR12?
Maximum rounds twelve: each half is twelve rounds, teams switch sides, and the first to thirteen wins. It replaced the older MR15 format and shortens a match to roughly forty minutes, which suits league scheduling considerably better.
Should a league use faceit or in-game servers?
Third-party platforms give you anti-cheat, demos and configurable settings, which is why most organised leagues use them. In-game premier mode works for a casual league but gives you far less control and no match records.
How do you keep demos for disputes?
Require both teams to record and retain demos for the season. A disputed round or a cheating allegation is unanswerable without one, and demos are the only evidence that settles either.
How many teams make a good season?
Six to eight teams playing each other once fills five to seven weeks with one fixture a week, then a playoff. That is long enough for the table to mean something and short enough that rosters stay together.
